Information

A very high quality lightweight cloth.

The fibres are woven in a simple over-and-under pattern. This is the most common type of weave, offering balanced strength in both directions.
BGF, a Porcher Industries company, produces a wide range of fabrics used for marine and recreational use. These fabrics are used for fibre reinforced plastics in boats, surfboards, snowmobiles, skateboards, luggage, golf shafts, hockey sticks, tennis racquets, and marine and automotive tooling. They are designed for high performance and will withstand harsh environmental elements while retaining strength and durability.

Some Applications of Fibreglass Cloth:

1. Marine Industry:
Used in boat building, hull construction, and repair. Fibreglass cloth, when combined with a resin, (Epoxy is better) creates strong and lightweight structure and can be resistant to water and salt corrosion.
2. Automotive Industry:
Employed in body panels, parts for racing cars, and certain repairs of automotive components. It provides strength/durability without adding excessive weight.
3. Model Industry:
Can be used in the construction of model aircraft parts where weight reduction and strength are more critical, such as fuselage and wing components.
4. Sporting Goods:
Fibreglass is used to manufacture sports equipment such as skis, snowboards, surfboards, and bicycles due to its high strength and very low weight.

Working with Fibreglass Cloth:

1. Cutting: A Fibreglass cloth can be cut using sharp scissors, however professional composite shears will outlast standard textile scissors.
Care should be taken to avoid fraying of the edges. Tip: use a low tack tape to lay over before cutting to avoid fraying.
2. Resin: A Fibreglass cloth is typically used with epoxy, polyester, or vinylester resins. The resin is applied to the cloth, which allows the fibres to bond and create a rigid structure once cured.

Orders for this cloth up to 4 mt length

1mt, 2mt and 3mt of cloth will be carefully folded and packaged neatly, minimising as much creasing and distortion to the fabric as possible. If ordering 4 Mt’s or more then the cloth will be supplied rolled on a cardboard tube.
