Uni-directional Fibreglass Cloth & Tape

A unidirectional (UD) fabric is one in which the majority of fibres run in one direction. A small percentage of fibre or other material may run in other directions with the main intention being to hold the primary fibres in position. Our Unidirectional cloths and tapes have their primary fibres in the 0° direction.

A Uni-directional Glassfibre manufactured cloth is a very specialized material used in composite construction and repair. These materials are integral to various industries, including aerospace, automotive, marine, leisure and sporting goods, due to their high strength-to-weight ratio and durability. A small percentage of fibre or other material may run in other directions with the main intention being to hold the primary fibres in position.

Definition: Uni-directional fabric (commonly referred to as UD) consists of the Glass fibres in this case aligned in one single direction. The alignment increases the material’s strength and stiffness along the chosen fibre direction, making it ideal for applications requiring a very high tensile strength composite part.

Characteristics:
Strength and Stiffness: Highest along the fibre direction.
Lightweight: Offers excellent strength without adding significant weight introduction.
Flexibility in Design: Can be oriented in specific directions to reinforce particular areas of a structure such as boat hulls ect.
Ease of Use: Can be easily cut and laid into complex shapes by hand.

Some Applications:
Aerospace: Used in the construction of aircraft components, such as wings and fuselage panels, where uniformed directional strength is critical.
Marine: Used in the manufacture of boat hulls and other marine structures for strength and durability.
Automotive: Used in parts like body panels and structural components to reduce weight and enhance performance.
Sporting Goods: Snowboards, Kite-Boards ect.

Uni-directional (UD) fiberglass cloth and various tapes are one of the essential materials in modern composite construction and repair, offering excellent strength and versatility. Their applications span multiple industries, providing customized reinforcement where it’s most needed.
