Information

Crystic 701 PAX Polyester Infusion Resin is a pre-accelerated, isophthalic polyester resin characterized by its low viscosity and controlled exotherm properties. Designed specifically for vacuum infusion processes, this resin ensures excellent mechanical properties and efficient infusion, making it ideal for large structural applications. It holds Lloyd's approval, highlighting its quality and reliability for use in various demanding environments.

Applications

1. Marine Industry: Suitable for constructing boat hulls and other marine structures requiring high durability and water resistance.
2. Wind Energy: Ideal for manufacturing wind turbine blades and components due to its excellent strength and lightweight properties.
3. Building and Construction: Used in creating strong, reliable building materials and structural components.
4. Transportation: Applicable for producing automotive and transportation components where strength and lightweight materials are essential.

Benefits

1. Low Viscosity: Ensures rapid and thorough infusion into reinforcement materials, reducing application time and improving process efficiency.
2. Controlled Exotherm: Minimizes the risk of overheating during curing, ensuring a more stable and controlled process.
3. High Mechanical Strength: Provides excellent tensile and flexural strength, making it suitable for high-stress applications.
4. Compatibility with Various Reinforcements: Works well with carbon fibre, aramid fibres (such as Kevlar), and glass fibres, providing versatility in application.
5. Lloyd's Approval: Certified for use in marine applications, ensuring compliance with high safety and quality standards.

- Gel Time at 25ºC (using 2% Butanox M-50): 85 minutes

Usage Instructions

- Preparation: Allow the resin to reach workshop temperature (18ºC - 20ºC) before use.
- Catalyst Addition: Add 1% - 2% of Catalyst M (or Butanox M50) and mix thoroughly with a low shear mechanical stirrer.
- Application: Designed for vacuum infusion processes, but can also be used in similar techniques requiring low viscosity and controlled exotherm.

Storage and Handling

- Storage Conditions: Store in the dark, in suitable closed containers at temperatures below 20ºC, ideally not exceeding 30ºC.
- Handling Precautions: Ensure proper ventilation during use and refer to the Safety Data Sheet for detailed safety instructions.

Crystic 701 PAX is a high-performance infusion resin offering a combination of low viscosity, controlled exotherm, and excellent mechanical properties, making it suitable for a wide range of applications from marine to wind energy and construction.

For more detailed information, please refer to the technical data sheet. To comply with Hazardous transport regulations, and to keep shipping costs low, larger amounts of this resin may be decanted into 5L containers or delivered on a pallet.

Q & A

How much catalyst do i add to this polyester infusion resin?

You would add between 1 - 2 % catalyst.

Do i need to post cure my wheel arch after i have moulded with this infusion resin? i usually use epoxy.

Satisfactory laminates for many applications can be made from Crystic 701PAX by curing at workshop temperature
(20°C). For optimum properties, however, laminates should be post-cured before being put into service. The laminate should be allowed to cure for 24 hours at 20°C, and then be oven cured for 16 hours at 40°C or 3 hours at 80°C.
