Information

This resin is a clear, light-amber, low-viscosity epoxy, which, when mixed with one of the WEST SYSTEM hardeners, is formulated to wet out wood fibre, fibreglass and a variety of metals.
When mixed with the appropriate hardener, it is an excellent adhesive, which will fill gaps and bridges voids when modified with WEST SYSTEM fillers and can be sanded and shaped when cured.
With roller applications, it possesses excellent thin-film characteristics by flowing out and self-levelling without any fisheyeing.
The epoxy mix cures to a clear finish so that a natural finish may be achieved by coating with a good quality two pack polyurethane varnish.

Dispensing pump 301B is advised for accurate measuring. The use of the west system pump sets gives you the convenience of a clean dispense and an accurate mix.  Prime the pumps as shown on the video (see video tab above)  please note that these pumps are ’calibrated’ which means one full pump of 105 to one full pump of 205/206 hardener will give you the automatic ratio of 5 to 1 required.

Which pack do I use?

205 Hardener is used in a majority of situations to produce a rapid cure and results in an epoxy which develops its physical properties quickly. When mixed with 105 resin, the cured system yields a high-strength, rigid solid which has excellent cohesive properties and provides an outstanding moisture vapour barrier with excellent bonding and coating properties.105/205 Pot Life At 25°C 10 to 15 minutes Cure To Solid State At 21°C 5to 7 hours Cure To Maximum Strength At 21°C. 5 to 7 days Minimum Recommended Temperature 5°C

206 Hardener should be used where ambient temperatures are higher and/or greater working time is required. The resulting mix yields a performance very similar to 205 Hardener.
105/206 Pot Life At 25°C 20 to 30 minutes
Cure To Solid State At 21°C 9 to 12 hours
Cure To Maximum Strength At 21°C 5 to 7 days
Minimum Recommended Temperature 16°C

I'm currently restoring a 140 year old narrowboat, timber top and iron hulled. The timber has been left to rot and so needs considerable replacement work carrying out. As I move along I'm coating everything with a coat of West Systems epoxy and fibreglass cloth.
I've used other epoxies that where donated, some better than others but none as good as the West Systems. I find it goes on well with the roller, wets out nicely and sags less than the other stuff on vertical surfaces. Once hardened it sands really well leaving a good base for overpainting.

Q & A

Which pump set do i use with the West System  B pack?

You would need the 301B pump set.Dispensing with Mini pumps - Most problems related to curing of the epoxy can be traced to the wrong ratio of resin and hardener. To simplify metering, we recommend using calibrated WEST SYSTEM Mini Pumps to dispense the resin and hardener. Mini Pumps are calibrated to deliver the proper working ratio of resin to hardener.

Pump one full pump stroke of resin for each one full pump stroke of hardener. Depress each pump head fully and allow the head to come compl
etely back to the top before beginning the next stroke. Partial strokes will give the wrong ratio. Read the pump instructions before using pumps.
Before you use the first mixture on a project, verify the proper ratio according to the instructions that come with the pumps. Re-check the ratio anytime you experience problems with curing.
Dispensing without Mini Pumps (Weight/volume measure) - To measure 105 Resin and 205 or 206 Hardener by weight or volume, combine five parts resin with one part hardener.
