Information

Crystic 491PA Polyester Resin is a pre-accelerated, thixotropic, isophthalic polyester resin known for its excellent water and chemical resistance. This versatile resin is particularly suited for the production of high-performance boat hulls, especially those intended for tropical climates. Additionally, Crystic 491PA is ideal for manufacturing chemical plant components, tanks, pipes, and containers designed to hold food and potable liquids, including drinking water. If intended for this use you must follow the post-curing guidelines in the Data Sheets.

Applications

1. Marine Industry: Perfect for creating durable and robust boat hulls, particularly for vessels used in warm or tropical areas. When used with Crystic Gelcoat 65PA, it forms a matched performance system that ensures superior durability and blister resistance.
2. Food and Beverage Containers: Suitable for manufacturing vessels that store food and potable liquids, such as drinking water, milk, wines, and spirits, due to its low residual styrene content which ensures non-toxic, non-tainting laminates.
3. Chemical Plants: Utilized in the construction of tanks, pipes, and other equipment exposed to harsh chemical environments.
4. Industrial Applications: Applicable for various industrial manufacturing needs where high chemical resistance and durability are required.

Benefits

1. Excellent Chemical and Water Resistance: Ensures long-lasting performance in environments exposed to moisture and chemicals.
2. High Mechanical Properties: Provides robust strength and durability, making it suitable for critical applications.
3. Non-Toxic and Non-Tainting: Ideal for containers and vessels holding food and potable liquids, ensuring safety and compliance with health standards.
4. Versatile Application Methods: Can be applied using brush or spray techniques and is suitable for the pultrusion process.
5. Regulatory Approvals: Approved by Lloyd’s Register of Shipping for marine applications and under the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) for contact with potable water.

Usage Instructions

- Preparation: Allow the resin to reach workshop temperature (18ºC - 20ºC) before use.
- Catalyst Addition: Add 2% of Catalyst M (or Butanox M50) for general moldings. For applications involving foodstuffs and potable liquids, use Catalyst O (or Interox LA3).
- Post Curing: For optimal properties, post-cure the laminates for 24 hours at 20ºC, followed by 3 hours at 80ºC or 16 hours at 40ºC. For food-related applications, an additional wet steam cleaning or hot water cleaning is recommended.

Storage and Handling

- Storage Conditions: Store in the dark, in suitable closed containers, ideally below 20ºC, and not exceeding 30ºC.
- Handling Precautions: Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed safety guidelines. Use appropriate personal protective equipment and ensure good ventilation during use.

Crystic 491PA is an excellent choice for a wide range of applications requiring high performance and durability, especially in marine and food storage environments. For detailed information, always refer to the technical data sheet.

To comply with Hazardous transport regulations, and to keep shipping costs low, larger amounts of this resin may be decanted into 5L containers or delivered on a pallet.
